Gautier Capuçon is a true 21st century ambassador for the cello. Recent highlights include appearances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra and Mariinsky Theatre. He is Artist-in-Residence at the Paris Philharmonie as well as the Wiener Konzerthaus. And he performs with world leading conductors such as Semyon Bychkov, Gustavo Dudamel and Andrés Orozco-Estrada; and collaborates with contemporary composers including Henri Dutilleux, Thierry Escaich, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wolfgang Rihm, and Jörg Widmann. As a chamber musician, Capuçon performs with instrumentalists such as Lisa Batiashvili, Nikolai Lugansky, Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim.
Besides his engagement as a musician, he cherishes a profound pedagogical interest. He is, f.i., founder and leader of the 'Classe d'Excellence de Violoncelle' at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and a passionate ambassador for the Orchestre à l'École Association. In summer 2021, Capuçon initiated his project 'Un été en France', taking 27 students along with him on the road for 19 concerts in a variety of towns and cities, showcasing both young musicians and young dancers within his concert presentations. In January 2022, he launched his own Foundation to support young and talented musicians at the beginning of their career.
« Variations fantastiques sur un thème à caractère chevaleresque », ce poème symphonique basé sur le livre de Cervantès présente l’histoire du chevalier errant Don Quichotte de la Mancha et de son serviteur Sancho Panza. Et il est fantastique, ce récit magistralement composé qui, tantôt avec délicatesse, tantôt avec ironie et flamboyance, entraîne ses auditeurs dans la lutte contre l’injustice.
