ALICE DOOREMAN

the dynamics between human and machine

We invited rising talent Alice Dooreman to capture her take on a concert evening with works by Pierre Boulez and John Cage. The outcome is a collection of analog photos that document her interpretation and exploration of the orchestra.

Alice Dooreman: “For me, photography is about observing closely, waiting patiently, and creating a dialogue. I’m particularly drawn to analogue photography because it highlights this subtle interplay. The process unfolds over a longer arc, making it all the more thrilling. The materiality and unexpected elements—texture, grain, a scratch, or the unique colours shaped by film—become more vivid, enriching the dynamic between human and machine.”

specifics: analog film, Nikon F-601 (Fujifilm 400, Kodak Portra 800, and Ilford Delta 3200)
