José Vilaplana Herruzo

principal double bass with the Brussels Philharmonic

favourite orchestral piece:
Maurice Ravel · Piano Concerto in G major: II. Adagio assai
[listen on Spotify]

"One of my favorite pieces is the second movement of Ravel’s Piano Concerto. The first time I heard that melody, I was deeply touched. I'm not exactly sure why this melody is so compelling to me; it might be because I associate it with a person who has suffered a lot but, instead of letting that poison harden their heart, continues to spread tenderness. I’m very happy that we will be playing it a couple of times this year!"
