"It is one of my favourites because of its legendary timpani part (played by two timpanists). It embodies everything music can evoke: it can be bittersweet, rhythmically pulsating, tribal, exhilarating, tender, monstrously primitive, and so much more.
We recorded it with the Brussels Philharmonic, and we played two remarkable concerts—one in Paris and one in Flagey. Conductor Michel Tabachnik unleashed all his artistry in this music, giving this recording something unique. I love bringing this recording with me when I teach timpani masterclasses abroad."
