Kazushi Ono must, unavoidably, cancel his concerts

20 November 2024 – With great regret, Kazushi Ono must cancel all his scheduled concerts starting December 1 due to medical reasons. Kazushi Ono will undergo back surgery in Japan. The preparation and recovery process for this procedure is expected to take approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
We sincerely wish our Music Director, Kazushi Ono, a smooth procedure and recovery, and we look forward to welcoming him back to Brussels after his recuperation.

A replacement has been found for the scheduled productions that Ono was set to conduct in our country during this period:

ALSO SPRACH ZARATHUSTRA

The concerts at Flagey on 14.12 and 15.12 will be conducted by Ilan Volkov, principal guest conductor of Brussels Philharmonic. The Belgian premiere of a new concerto for orchestra by Martin Matalon, a co-commission by Brussels Philharmonic & Orchestre National de France, perfectly aligns with the contemporary music projects Volkov is developing with the orchestra.

Martin Matalon
Relatos, Concerto for Orchestra (Belgian premiere)*
Richard Strauss
Also sprach Zarathustra, op. 30, TrV 176

PROKOFIEV & LUGANSKY

The concerts at De Bijloke (19.12) and Flagey (20.12) will be conducted by Thomas Dausgaard. He has previously collaborated with soloist Nikolay Lugansky, who will perform Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3.

The second part of the programme, originally featuring Rachmaninov's The Isle of the Dead and Scriabin's Symphony No. 4, will be replaced by Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. The planned Poème de l’extase was part of the series of complete performances and recordings of Scriabin’s symphonies—a project Brussels Philharmonic and Kazushi Ono are working on together.

NEW PROGRAMME

Sergei Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major, Op. 26
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64
