Grammy Awards 2025

Bill Frisell’s ‘Orchestras’ with Brussels Philharmonic honoured with a Grammy nomination, but the award ultimately goes to Taylor Eigsti's 'Plot Armor'

Los Angeles / Brussels, February 3, 2024 – The Brussels Philharmonic is honoured to have received its very first Grammy nomination in the category Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for 'Orchestras,' the latest album by renowned American guitarist and composer Bill Frisell. Although the prestigious award at the 67th Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles ultimately went to Taylor Eigsti's 'Plot Armor', the orchestra is proud of this international recognition.

"With this nomination, the Brussels Philharmonic reaffirms its status as a world-class orchestra."

This first Grammy nomination further solidifies the Brussels Philharmonic’s international reputation, having previously won a Golden Globe for the film score of The Aviator (2004) and an Oscar for The Artist (2011). Orchestras was created in collaboration with Flagey and Muziekcentrum De Bijloke, conducted by Alexander Hanson. The project explores the boundaries between jazz and symphonic music, highlighting the unique collaboration between Frisell and the orchestra.

"With this nomination, the Brussels Philharmonic reaffirms its status as a world-class orchestra," says Gunther Broucke, General Manager of the Brussels Philharmonic. "The orchestra continues to push the boundaries of symphonic music, with a strong focus on innovation and groundbreaking collaborations such as the ‘Jazz Meets Symphonic’ series."

"It is an indescribable feeling to receive international recognition for our adventurous recording with Bill Frisell," says Judith Van Eeckhout, Artistic Coordinator of the Brussels Philharmonic. "To receive a Grammy nomination for this project from the ‘Jazz Meets Symphonic’ series, in collaboration with Kristof Roseeuw (Muziekcentrum De Bijloke) and Maarten Van Rousselt (Flagey), fills me with immense gratitude. But above all, the memories of this extraordinary collaboration will remain unforgettable."

It really was a dream come true for me having the opportunity to do the 'Orchestras' project with Michael Gibbs and the Brussels Philharmonic. Everyone involved gave us the most amazing trust and support. From the very beginning when I first presented the idea, all the way through to the album being released, there was nothing but one hundred percent enthusiasm. It was a huge undertaking. I wouldn’t even know where to begin trying to thank all the people along the way that helped to make it possible. I feel so lucky. And now, what a wonderful surprise to have the album nominated for a Grammy I’m so thankful.
