American conductor Clark Rundell moved to the UK during his studies and today has his home base in Manchester. He is a great advocate of contemporary music, in which he also specialised.
He is artistic director of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's new music ensemble, Ensemble 10/10, with which he regularly performs at the UK's major contemporary music venues. Rundell also directs the departments of contemporary music and conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Rundell's repertoire spans many genres, and he often performs crossover projects with artists such as Elvis Costello, Toumani Diabate, Tim Garland and Wayne Shorter. Numerous jazz musicians have also previously collaborated with him (John Dankworth, Bob Brookmeyer, Ed Thigpen, Cleo Laine, Lew Tabakin and others).
Rufus Wainwright has been an opera lover since childhood. He convinced his sister Martha and her family members to reenact scenes from Puccini's Tosca at home. Yet it took until 2009 for his first opera Prima Donna to be staged. In 2018, he conceived its successor, Hadrian, commissioned by the Canadian Opera Company Toronto. The Klarafestival 2024 brings this extraordinary production to Bozar.
