And yet, The Addams Family is so much more than its earworm harpsichord theme. After all, the music of composer Marc Shaiman transforms this pleasantly weird ‘black and white’ family into technicolour characters.
With a carnival jollity, Shaiman provides an auditory counterweight to the macabre-looking estate where the eccentric Gomez and Morticia live with their children Wednesday and Pugsley. The score rages on, unstoppable in its tracks. So don’t be alarmed if our musicians’ hands seem to have a life of their own!
