RomaEuropa Festival 2024: Brussels Philharmonic and Dirk Brossé pay tribute to film composer Ryuichi Sakamoto with an open-air concert at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome.

"I'm just delighted to be living, to be able to have a simple conversation, to feel a ray of sunlight on my skin and listen to the breeze move through the leaves of a tree." Even while battling a terminal illness, composer Ryuichi Sakamoto viewed the world with romantic optimism. This same uplifting nostalgia is what he so beautifully captured in his legendary film scores.

In 2016, Dirk Brossé and the Brussels Philharmonic collaborated with Sakamoto to record his music for iconic films including Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, The Last Emperor, and The Revenant. Now, we perform these renowned soundtracks in his absence, following our premature farewell last year after his long battle with cancer. It's a tribute concert to a musical partner who will never be forgotten.
