Cyan. The bright neon colour immediately catches the eye when you visit conductor Joolz Gale’s website. It is characteristic of the way the British conductor makes music: bright and flashy, uncompromising and in your face, but at the same time gentle and inviting. Periods are not important. This score omnivore feels as comfortable with Hindemith and Berio as he does with Mendelssohn or Beethoven – which you could already discover with us last Spring.
In the 24-25 season, we return with him to the godfather of the symphony: Joseph Haydn. The darting string lines of Il Distratto or the wicked tempos of Symphony No. 67 are certainly right up his street. Weave in the lively steps of Rameau’s Les Boréades and you’re guaranteed an uplifting evening concert.
