Brussels Philharmonic opens Festival Musiq3 with the young conductor Glass Marcano, called 'a marvel of energy and emotion'.
On the programme: Tchaikovsky's Fifth, a stunningly beautiful symphony, explicitly about fate. Tchaikovsky outlined a full psychological programme to it, ranging from 'total submission to Fate', to 'no, no hope at all'. Despair, doom and gloom, which despite itself became one of the most played symphonies of the romantic repertoire, in which many a lost soul has found a form of understanding and solace.
Counterbalance comes afterwards from Pérez Prado - or 'King of the Mambo' - and the swinging Popurrí.
