Pianist Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort (1984) was one of the laureates and the audience’s favourite of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium in 2007. Since that time he has built an honourable reputation as a concert pianist, giving recitals in prestigious concert halls in Europe, Israel, China, South Africa, Canada and the USA.
Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort’s repertoire includes over thirty-five different piano concertos by a rich array of composers: Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Liszt, Grieg, Ravel, Gershwin, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Beethoven (integrally). He has worked with such eminent orchestras as the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, Belgian National Orchestra, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, Orchestre National d’Ile de France, Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, the Kölner Akademie, the Krakow Philharmonie, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, the KZN Philharmonic Durban, Cape Town Philharmonic, Johannesburg Philharmonic, and with renowned conductors such as Dirk Brossé, Philippe Herreweghe, Jakub Hrusa, James Judd, Stanislav Kochanovsky, Enrique Mazzola, George Pehlivanian, Michel Tabachnik, Gilbert Varga and Walter Weller.
A passioned chamber musician, Vanbeckevoort has shared the stage with Ning Kam, Tobias Feldmann, Severin von Eckardstein, Thomas Blondelle, Camille Thomas, Justus Grimm among others. In addition, he is a permanent member of the Roeland Hendrikx Ensemble and he performs successfully with jazz-pianist Jef Neve. Many of these partnerships have resulted in CD recordings (11 in total) that are broadcast ed internationally. Finally, his passion for chamber music is evident from his appointment as artistic director of the summer festival Klassiek Leeft Meesterlijk in KnokkeHeist in Belgium.
Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort concluded his training under Jan Michiels, Menahem Pressler, Russell Sherman and Elissó Wirssaladze and has benefited from advice given by celebrated musical personalities such as Leif Ove Andsnes, Dmitri Bashkirov, Wha-Kyung Byun, Jacques De Tiège, Alexander Korsantia, Hans Leygraf and Jan Wijn. Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort is a Steinway Artist and teaches piano at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven, Belgium.
